Activision reveals release date for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III

21 August 2023

Back in May of this year, the well-known Call of Duty leaker Tom Henderson claimed that big things were on the way for fans and players of the hugely popular international esports title. He mentioned, amongst other things, the possibility of an announcement regarding a Zombies mode for the newest instalment of the franchise. It turns out now that Henderson, as so often before, was right, because recently, Activision announced the release date for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, plus a host of other news.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III official release date

Starting with the most important reveal of all, the release date for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. Activision has announced that the newest instalment of the series will be released on Friday, November 10th, 2023, pretty much in line with what was expected. The game will be released simultaneously for Windows (via Battle.net and Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox One. Activision has also said that they will hold an open beta test for the multiplayer mode of the new game ahead of the full game release. People who pre-order the game will be given early access to this beta test, but a date for this has not been announced yet.

What else has Activision revealed?

As we mentioned earlier, the release date was not the only important piece of information recently revealed by Activision in regard to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. The developer also talked about some of the game’s story content, a few new features, and of course, the much-discussed Zombie mode.

  • Story-wise, Modern Warfare III will be a direct sequel to Modern Warfare II. The story of the upcoming release will continue right where its predecessor left off. In Campaign Mode, Captain Price and Task Force 141 continue their fight against Russian “Ultranationalist” Vladmir Makarov, which represents the first time in the franchise’s history that narratively linked games will be released in consecutive years.
  • Activision has also revealed the addition of a few interesting new features to the Modern Warfare series. There will be Open Combat Missions, which are promised to have a more open-world approach compared to the traditional Campaign Mode, for example. Modern Warfare III will also offer a new movement mechanic called “Tac-Stance”, which was designed to be used in small room environments. Players also get larger health bars and as far as the perks at the start of each match go, a new perk called “Covert Sneakers” will be included, allowing players to move without being heard.
    • Fantastic news for the fans of Zombies mode as well, because Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III will offer the largest Zombies map ever for this mode. It will include missions that take place in the typical open-world environment and squads will het the possibility to join up with each other to fight Zombies as well.
