Apex Legends Global Series Year 4 to take place in Japan
4 September 2024
The players and fans of Apex Legends, and international esports in general, had to be patient, but the big announcement has finally been made: the date and location for the Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS): 2024 Championship! After the Year 3 season ender in September 2023, at the Resorts World Arena in Birmingham (United Kingdom), the ALGS is moving to Asia for the first time ever. From January 28, 2025, to February 2nd, 2025, the Apex Legends Global Series: 2025 Championship will be held at the Daiwa House PREMIST DOME in Sapporo, Japan.
Major event on international esports calendar
While titles like Counter-Strike and League of Legends seem to dominate the international esports headlines at times, Apex Legends has actually been amongst the most-played titles in the world for years now. In the battle royale category especially, Apex regularly sets industry benchmarks. Just look at the location for the recently announced Apex Legends Global Series: 2024 Championship. The Daiwa House PREMIST DOME in Sapporo sits no less than 42.000 people and is expected to sell out for most if not all of the five days of the event.
The popularity and immensity of Apex Legends is also underlined by the prize pool for the 2025 Championship. Organizers EA and Respawn Entertainment have announced a $ 2 million prize pool, of which $ 600.000 will go to the eventual champion. The runner-up will pocket $ 320.000 in prize money, while the number three will go home with $ 210.000.
“Apex Legends is an internationally renowned franchise, and it’s incredibly rewarding when we get to show up in the hometowns of our players and fans around the world”, says John Nelson, Senior Director of Esports at EA Entertainment, “The ALGS has a massive community in Japan, and we’ve seen all of the comments asking us to bring the program to the country, which is why we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate the marquee event on our competitive calendar at the iconic Daiwa House PREMIST DOME.”
Preseason Qualifiers starting in November
As usual, the new ALGS year will kick off with a series of Preseason Qualifiers in each of the four Pro League regions (APAC North, APAC South, EMEA and North America). These will be played between November 25th, 2024, and December 18th, 2024, with registration for the Preseason Qualifiers opening on Monday, October 23rd.
At the Apex Legends Global Series: 2024 Championship, the 40 best teams in the world will compete for a share of the million-dollar prize pool. The event will start with a Group Stage, consisting of four groups of 10 teams each, followed by a double-elimination Bracket Stage based on Group Stage performances. The eventual ALGS Year 4 champions will then be decided in the final and decisive Match Point Finals, consisting of the top ten teams from the Winners Bracket series and the top ten teams from Elimination Bracket Round 2.
