11 September 2024
The eyes of the international esports community and especially the Dota 2 community will be on Bangkok later this year, as ESL has just announced the location and dates for ESL One. From Thursday, December 13th to Sunday, December 15th, the twelve best Dota 2 teams in the world will come together in Thailand’s capital to compete for the prestigious ESL One title and a share of the $ 1 million prize pool. It will be the second and last ESL One tournament of 2024, after the event in Birmingham (England) in April of this year.
Dota 2 ESL Pro Tour
As most of you will know, the Dota 2 ESL One event are part of the Dota 2 ESL Pro Tour (EPT). Therefore, four of the twelve competitors at ESL One Bangkok 2024 will be selected based on the Pro Tour leaderboard. The remaining eight teams will come from the various qualifying tournaments that will be taking place in the build-up to the event in Thailand. More information about the qualifiers is expected to be released very soon.
As for the Thai fans of Dota 2, the news of the announcement will be even bigger, as it will be the first time that an ESL One event will be held offline in the country. Malaysia, on the other hand, which is part of the same region, has already held multiple events in the past few years. Tickets for the event, which will be held at the Royal Paragon Hall in Bangkok, will start going on sale on Thursday, December 5th at 18:00 ICT or 12:00 BST.
“ESL One Bangkok is coming”, writes ESL on their own website, “Find your path! Teams from around the world will soon be fighting for their place as one of the best 12 teams in the world that will travel to Bangkok later this year, competing not just for the staggering prize pool of $ 1,000,000, but also for valuable EPT Points. Are you ready to join us for Asia’s biggest Dota 2 celebration of the year?”
$ 1 million prize pool
As we mentioned before, ESL One has announced a prize pool worth $ 1 million for the Bangkok 2024 event. Of that amount, $ 300.000 is reserved for the eventual winner, while the runner-up will take home $ 175.000. The number three gets $ 120.000 in winnings, and the top-ranking teams will also get a number of EPT points, which count towards the Dota 2 ESL Pro Tour leaderboard.
As has been usual for ESL tournaments in the past year, ESL One Bangkok 2024 will feature a host of high-profile sponsors, thanks to the ESL FACEIT Group network. These include energy drink company Monster, PC hardware manufacturer Intel and logistics company DHL. For the latter, it will be one of the first ESL One esports events they sponsor since announcing the extension of their partnership with the ESL FACEIT Group earlier this summer.
