FIA announces return of F4 Esports Global Championship
3 June 2025
If there is one thing international esports have shown, it’s that they have lots of (different types of) overlap with real-life sports. One of the best-known examples is FIFA, of course, but shooters like Counter-Strike and Call of Duty, for example, have also proven their worth when it comes to training certain qualities such as reaction speed and teamwork.
Perhaps the biggest overlap of all though, is between racing esports or sim racing and real-life motorsports. That is one of the main reasons why racing games are so popular and one of the main reasons why the International Automobile Federation (FIA, Federation Internationale de l’Automobile) have decided to organize the second edition of the FIA F4 Esports Global Championship later this year.
FIA F4 Esports Global Championship 2025
The inaugural edition of the FIA F4 Esports Global Championship was played last year and proved to be a big success, both amongst drivers and fans. The event gathered the ten highest-scoring drivers from the three FIA F4 Regional Tour series (Americas, Asia-Pacific and Europe) and had them race each other on eight of the world’s most iconic racing tracks, including the Italian Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello and the Belgian Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.
For the second edition of the FIA F4 Esports Global Championship, which is set to start in October, regional qualifiers start in June under the name iRacing FIA F4 Regional Tour Series (Season 3). Instead of ten spots for the final championship like last year, a total of thirty drivers will be able to qualify this year; ten from each of the previously mentioned regions. The prize pool has also been increased from $ 25.000 last year to $ 35.000 for the FIA F4 Global Esports Championship 2025.
“Following a successful inaugural season in 2024, the FIA F4 Global Esports Championship presented by MOZA is slated to return with a bigger prize pool later this year”, writes MOZA Racing, “Returning later this year with a larger $35,000 prize pool, the championship will bring together the world’s best sim racing talent for four thrilling events across eight rounds—all broadcast live on iRacing’s official channels.”
Dates revealed, tracks not yet
As with every esports racing event, the track selection is one of the most pieces of information both drivers and fans look forward to the most. In the case of the 2025 FIA F4 Esports Global Championship though, the tracks will only be revealed 24 hours prior to the start of each race. Organisers FIA and main sponsor MOZA hope that this will create an even more equal playing from the start. That is also why all drivers will be racing with a fixed setup.
While the track selections will not be revealed in advance, FIA and MOZA did announce the racing calendar already. It looks like there will be a total of eight races again, spread over four doubleheader events taking place on:
- October 25th, 2025
- November 8th, 2025
- November 22nd, 2025
- December 6th, 2025 (finale)
