GeoGuessr World Cup 2025 becomes most-watched GeoGuessr event ever

3 September 2025

Just this past weekend, the World Championship Finals of GeoGuessr took place in Copenhagen. To be more precise, at the KB Hallen, a multi-purpose arena located just to the west of the Danish capital’s city center with a capacity of around 4.500 people. And while the venue sold out for the Gogues World Cup, it was the online viewership that truly impressed. That’s because the 2025 edition broke several important viewership records, including peak viewers and total number of hours watched. Like that, the geography-based guessing game is continuing to build momentum in the international esports community.

GeoGuessr World Cup 2025

The GeoGuessr World Championship Finals 2025 gathered the 16 best players in the world in Copenhagen, where they competed for the title of 2025 world champion. This group consisted of 13 players who automatically qualified through their place in the GeoGuessr World Ranking, while the 3 remaining spots went to two winners of Wildcard events and one winner of the Open Majors. They all competed for a share of the prize pool that started at $ 100.000, just like the previous two editions of the GeoGuessr World Cup in 2023 and 2024. The amount eventually settled at $ 108.470.

Europe vs Americas

The GeoGuessr World Cup 2025 came down to a final between Szabolcs “Debre” Debre from Hungary and American-Romanian player Radu “Radu C” Casapu. The former plays for the international team Krai Babies in Division 2 of La Ligue, while the latter is an active member of La Ligue Division 1 side Thai Rock Readers. Debre went into the final as the slight favorite, mainly thanks to the fact that he is also the reigning GeoGuessr European champion, but it was Radu C who eventually clinched the World Championship title in what commentators and fans hailed as one of the best, most intense international GeoGuessr finals ever.

Viewership records

This undoubtedly is also what helped the GeoGuessr World Cup 2025 to eclipse some of the most important viewership statistics in esports. To start, there is the peak viewership, which is a one-time metric that represents the highest point of live viewer engagement. This is considered important, because it indicates the maximum reach potential of an event, in this case the GeoGuessr World Cup. While peak viewership remained just under 300.000 for the 2024 edition of the tournament, it reached 363.415. While it is nowhere close yet to the most-watched esports event of all time, the League of Legends 2024 World Championship with 6,86 million peak views, it does underline the growing popularity of GeoGuessr as a part of the international esports world.

On top of that, the GeoGuessr World Championship Finals 2025 also set a new record for numbers of hours watched throughout the event, which was played over two full days. While the 2024 edition accumulated 1,611 million hours watched, the most recent edition did a little better with 1,67 million hours watched across 19 hours of airtime.
