IMSA Esports Global Championship returning in November

30 October 2023

Fantastic news for fans of sim racing and international esports all around the world, because next month, the IMSA Esports Global Championship is returning to the calendar. This marks the annual return of one of the world’s most foremost sim racing sports car series, organized by the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) in collaboration with iRacing, the Virtual Competition Organisation (VCO) and Michelin, one of the world’s leading tire manufacturers. Some of the best sim racing drivers and teams will compete for cash prizes and, of course, the prestigious overall title, from Sunday, November 5th, to Saturday, December 16th.

2023 IMSA Esports Global Championship

The 2023 IMSA Esports Global Championship will be the second edition of the event, after the inaugural 2022 edition, which attracted a host of world-class sim racing talent. As a matter of fact, many of the drivers and teams that participated in the very first tournament ever have direct ties to the world of real-life racing, including in Formula 1, the FIA World Endurance Championship and from IMSA itself. This includes the likes of Team Redline, Williams Esports and IMSA Esports Global Championship GTD Champions Apex Racing Team, who are all expected to return for the upcoming 2023 edition as well.

“In its debut season the IMSA Esports Global Championship proved to be a success, with upwards of 180,000 viewers for the four-race championship”, explains John Doonan, President at the IMSA, “IMSA and the sport of sim racing have experienced remarkable growth in the past couple of seasons and we look forward to full fields and fierce competition in the 2023 IMSA Esports Global Championship. We are particularly excited by the fact that many of the world’s leading marques will again be participating in the series, giving sim racers and teams a unique opportunity to work closely with those world class racing programs”.

4 races, 4 legendary circuits

As you would expect from one of the biggest annual sim racing events, all of the races take place on virtual versions of legendary circuits. In total, the 2023 IMSA Esports Global Championship will consist of four races, with each race taking around two hours and forty minutes to complete.

  • Sunday, November 5th, 2023: Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta (Atlanta, Georgia, United States)
  • Sunday, November 12th, 2023: Watkins Glen International (Dix, New York, United States)
  • Sunday, December 3rd, 2023: Sebring International Raceway (Sebring, Florida, United States)
  • Saturday, December 16th, 2023: Daytona International Speedway (Daytona, Florida, United States)

“iRacing and IMSA have enjoyed a productive relationship for more than a decade”, says Tony Gardner, president of iRacing.com, “Our partnership with IMSA enables more than 230,000 iRacers around the world to race virtual versions of the world’s fastest sports cars on the great North American road courses featured in the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship and IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge. The IMSA Esports Global Championship continues our great partnership with IMSA as well as with many of the world’s leading makers of high-performance sports cars”.
