Is Red Bull Tetris the next big thing for Tetris esports?
11 August 2025
If there is one mainstream company that has clearly recognized esports as an industry with enormous potential, it’s Red Bull. In the past few years, the Austrian energy drink brand connected its name to various events and tournaments in the world of international esports. Earlier this year, for example, we wrote an article for our UK site about Red Bull Faster, a brand-new Trackmania tournament in the United Kingdom.
Recently, Red Bull was in the (esports) news once again, this time with the announcement of a brand-new type of esports. In collaboration with The Tetris Company, the company will be hosting Red Bull Tetris later this year, described as “the ultimate Tetris tournament”. They hope that this can take the international Tetris esports community to the next level.
Red Bull Tetris
Of course, Red Bull would not be Red Bull if they would not add some spectacular new features, in this case to the iconic game of Tetris. Though details in this regard have not been revealed yet, Red Bull Tetris will feature a range of new gameplay mechanics and in particular, a collection of special power-ups designed to make the game even more exciting for players and viewers alike.
“The iconic game beloved by millions—with exciting new twists”, Red Bull writes on their own website, “From Phone to Drone, Red Bull Tetris® seeks to find the most versatile player. Players will embark on a journey across different platforms and advance from Qualifiers to National Finals. The best of the best will take it all the way to the World Final in Dubai, where the ultimate showdown unfolds beneath the desert sky—featuring the first official live playable Tetris game brought to life by drones in the legendary Dubai Frame. Think you've got what it takes?”
Global Final in Dubai
The event starts with a series of regional qualifiers in which players will compete to reach their region’s respective National Final. The winners of these National Finals will return to action in the Global Final, which is set to take place from December 11th to 13th at the Dubai Frame located in Dubai’s Zabeel Park. This is currently the largest frame in the world, standing at 150 meters tall and 95 meters wide. The final game of the Red Bull Tetris series will be particularly spectacular, as it will be played within the confines of the Dubai Frame, with more than 2.000 drones representing the playing pieces. With players from more than 55 countries participating, Red Bull Tetris is expected to be one of the biggest international esports events in history that does not revolve around a modern video game.
“Tetris has been bringing people together for more than 40 years, creating connections across generations through its timeless gameplay. Partnering with Red Bull to launch a global competition is an exciting next chapter for us,” said Maya Rogers, President and CEO of The Tetris Company, “At Tetris, we’re passionate about evolving the ways people experience the game, and this tournament is another meaningful step in continuing to share the joy of Tetris with the world.”
