League of Legends KeSPA Cup returning end of this year

League of Legends KeSPA Cup returning end of this year

15 November 2024

Good news for international esports fans and especially for the Korean League of Legends amongst us! The Korean Esports Association (KeSPA) has just announced that the KeSPA Cup will be returning at the end of this year, after being absent from the international League of Legends calendar for three years. The renowned off-season event is set to take place from Saturday, November 30th 2024, to Sunday, December 8th.

New format for 2024 KeSPA Cup

The return of the KeSPA Cup this year means that the event will be held for the eighth time in its history, though the last edition took place in 2021. At the time, it was placed in the city of Ulsan, where this year’s edition will also take place, and was won by the DAMWON gaming Challengers. In comparison to that last edition, the 2024 KeSPA Cup has undergone various changes to its format, though.

To start with, the new KeSPA Cup will no longer be a competition for professional and amateur players, but one that is aimed at selecting players for the Korean national team. A total of twelve teams will be invited to participate. They will be divided into two groups and this stage will be followed by Playoffs. The invited teams are:

Brion

Freecs

Nongshim RedForce

Dplus

Gen.G

T1

DRX

Hanwha Life Esports

Vietnam All-Star

FearX

KT Rolster

Chinese Taipei All-Star

As you can you, apart from ten Korean organizations, the Vietnam All-Star team and the Chinese Taipei All-Star team are also invited to the KeSPA Cup 2024. This was done to increase the level of the event’s overall competition and to pitch Korean players against elite international competition as well.

$ 57.000 prize pool

Apart from the goal of selecting members for the national League of Legends team of South Korea, the KeSPA Cup is also a competitive event. That’s why the Korean Esports Association has announced an 80 million South Korean Won, which is about $ 57.057. Half of this amount is reserved for the eventual 2024 KeSPA Cup champions, while the runner-up takes home a quarter of the prize pool. The eventual numbers three and four win 10 million Won each, which is around $ 7.134.

Offline final stage

Like the past three editions of the KeSPA Cup, a major part of the 2024 edition will take place in the city of Ulsan, in the southeast of South Korea. That’s because the Korean Esports Association has a partnership with Ulsan Metropolitan City. The semifinals and the Grand Final will be held at the V Space Stadium in Seoul, the capital of South Korea. This stage will feature the four best teams from the Group Stage.

The event’s organization has not yet drawn the Groups for the 2024 KeSPA Cup yet. The expectation is that this information will be revealed soon and the same goes for more information regarding ticketing. The entire event will be broadcast exclusively on Naver Chijijik, a popular streaming service in South Korea, and the Korean Esports Association’s official Youtube channel.
