Get to know Milio, the Gentle Flame and LoL's newest champion

7 March 2023

It was a big weekend for fans and players of League of Legends around the world, because on Saturday, March 4th, Riot Games unveiled their newest champion. Milio, nicknamed the Gentle Flame, is a goofy 12-year-old boy with a special affinity for spiritual fire and the latest addition to the popular esports title. The hints and easter eggs regarding the unveiling of Milio have been dropping since February, and on Saturday, Riot used their official Twitter account to release a first introduction to the character’s biography plus a collection of letters, written by Milio and called “Adventure Reports”.

Milio’s story

“Milio is a warmhearted boy from Ixtal who has, despite his young age, mastered the fire axiom and discovered something new: soothing fire”, the Gentle Flame’s biography reads, “With this newfound power, Milio plans to help his family escape their exile by joining the Yun Tal, just like his grandmother once did”.

According to the biography that was released by Riot Games a few days ago, Milio is a descendant of elemental masters. His grandmother Lupé and her twin sister Luné combined their earth and fire axioms to make it through the Vidalion’s trials and join the yun Tal, but there was no happy end for them. After Luné attempted to plot against the Yun Tal, both her and Milio’s grandmother were convicted, leading to Lupé’s banishment to the farthest reaches of Ixtal and Luné’s disappearance.

As a result, Milio and his family grew up in exile, far away from Ixtal’s ruling caste of which his grandmother and her sister were a part. Until Milio was born, no one in the family managed to learn the axiomata from Lupé. While the future Gentle Flame did show promise, his struggle with the teachings made Lupé eventually give up on him. On his own though, Milio continued his training and ended up discovering an entirely new axiom, which he called “soothing fire”. At just twelve years old, he travelled the whole of Ixtal to reach Ixaocan, where he started training for the Vidalion’s trials. The Adventure Reports published by Riot Games are the letters Milio frequently sent home to his family during his journey.

Unknown abilities

While Milio’s biography and Adventure Reports reveal lots of things about League of Legends’ newest champion, there is still much information to be uncovered. League fans will be especially interested in Milio’s in-game abilities as they want to start figuring out how valuable the new character can be in the game. Riot is yet to announce more details in this regard, though based on what we know so far, Milio looks likely to be classified as a mage and possibly even as a support champion. More information about Milio is expected to be released soon, so we recommend keeping an eye on Riot Games’ official Twitter account as any unveilings will be announced there first, as usual.
