Summer Game Fest 2026: The most promising showcases

9 June 2026

Last weekend, the eyes of millions of gamers and international esports fans were on the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles (California). From Friday, June 5th, to Monday, June 8th, the venue was host to the seventh of edition of Summer Game Fest. And as we have grown accustomed to by now, Summer Game Fest 2026 delivered exactly what it has become famous for: exclusive announcements and showcases by the leading video game developers in the world, regarding their latest projects.
In this article, we are taking a look at some of the most anticipated announcements and the most surprising developments of the weekend.

Final Fantasy 7

One of the most anticipated announcements was the announcement by developer Square Enix, regarding the trailer and launch date of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. Besides a 5-minute reveal trailer (watch it here via the official Final Fantasy YouTube channel), the studio also revealed that they are aiming for a release of the game in the spring of next year. It will be the third and final installment of the hugely successful Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, after Final Fantasy 7 Remake (2020) and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (2024). Contrary to the previous two installments, FF7 Revelation will be launched for PlayStation as well as all other consoles and PC.

Resident Evil Veronica

Developer Capcom, known amongst many other titles for its Street Fighter franchise, had one of the most interesting (and for many people, most surprising) announcements of the weekend. During Summer Game Fest 2026, the Japanese studio announced that they are currently working on a remake of the popular survival horror RPG Resident Evil Code: Veronica from the year 2000. Under the title “Resident Evil Veronica”, Capcom will be changing the franchise’s trusted third-person view for a first-person view. Apart from that and a few other details from the official announcement trailer (watch it here on the official Resident Evil YouTube channel), the studio did not reveal much more for the moment.

Guild Wars 3

Thanks to Summer Game Fest 2026, the fans of the Guild Wars series have something to look forward to as well. The most recent instalment of the popular MMORPG dates back to 2012 and while that game has had plenty of updates, fans are still waiting for the next new full instalment. According to their Summer Game Fest presentation, that wait will have to be tolerated just a little longer, as Guild Wars 3 is expected to be launched in the autumn of next year. You can find the announcement and trailer here, on the official Guild Wars 3 website.

Street Fighter 6 Year 4

We mentioned Capcom and Street Fighter earlier, and we are doing again so now, though for a different reason. Besides the announcement of Resident Evil Veronica, the Japanese developer also announced Street Fighter 6’s fourth character pass, which introduces four new characters. These are Arjun, Bosch and Yasmine, plus a very special guest character. Entirely in line with the announcement of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation by Square Enix earlier during Summer Game Fest 2026, the fourth new Street Fighter 6 character will be the brilliant Tifa Lockhart.
