There is always something happening in the world of international esports and over the past few weeks, that “something” was nothing less than the 2025 League of Legends World Championship. At the end of every LoL season, Worlds, as it is often simply referred to, represents the ultimate culmination of the season. And this year was no different, with the Grand Final ending up as an all-Korean affair as T1 crowned themselves champions for a record-breaking third time in a row (and an equally record-breaking sixth time in total) by beating their archrivals KT Rolster 3-2.

KT Rolster on fire

While T1 would end up winning the League of Legends World Championship for a third consecutive time, it was their compatriots from KT Rolster who showed the best form during the initial Swiss Stage. They managed to book victories over Spanish esports organization KOI (1-0), Vietnamese side Secret Whales (1-0), and Chinese organization Top Esports (2-0). This helped them finish first in the rankings going into the Knockout Stage.

T1, on the other hand, only barely managed to qualify for that same Knockout Stage. The reigning champions needed five matches to clinch 8th place during the Swiss Stage. A victory against American esports organization FlyQuest (1-0) was followed by two consecutive defeats: 0-1 at the hands of Taiwanese esports organization CTBC Flying Oyster and 0-1 versus international organization Gen.G Esports. They were on the brink of elimination, but victories against 100 Thieves (2-0) and KOI (2-0) proved to be just enough to make it to the Knockout Stage.

T1 shows their pedigree

Both T1 and KT Rolster started the Knockout Stage well, with the former knocking out Anyone’s Legend from China (3-2) and the latter relatively easily overcoming CTBC Flying Oyster (3-0). In the Semifinals, T1 came up against Top Esports, while KT Rolster had to face Gen.G Esports. T1 made quick work of their Taiwanese opposition and KT did the same with Gen.G Esports, though their 3-1 victory also meant that the South Koreans had to concede a point for the first time during Worlds 2025.

All-Korean Grand Final

Those results meant that the Worlds 2025 Grand Final was going to be a high-stakes clash between two South Korean archrivals. As expected, it ended up being a tight affair that eventually moved in the directions of T1. With a 3-2 victory over KT Rolster, they became the first LoL side ever to win three world championships in a row, while also extending their own record of total world championship titles from five to six.

“This year was very difficult for me. Every year was full of challenges, and I always had to prove myself,” said Worlds 2025 MVP Gumayashi, ADC for T1, after winning the world championship, “You know, I have been the icon of being someone who always has to prove himself, but this year was different because finally, I feel like I have proven myself to myself. And I’m really happy that I was able to prove who I am to myself. And I can say for sure that I am the best AD Carry in the world.”
